The Energy Modelling Specialist will support developing NEOM’s Energy Modelling function within the Energy sector. The Purpose of this function is to build up internal energy modelling capabilities for NEOM and simulate the build-up of NEOM’s energy system (including the optimal generation & flexibility mix) from today up to 2030.

Energy Modelling is critical for the energy sector as it is directly driving major activities and decisions such as the capacity planning for wind & solar and the pricing of long-term power supply contracts. The potential candidate should be highly motivated and driven and have a good knowledge of advanced energy technologies and energy market/system dynamics.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Build up leading energy modelling capabilities and simulating NEOM’s energy system, based on 100% renewable generation, and aiming to achieve the lowest Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) using various analytical methodologies in forecasting and modelling energy systems
  • Participate to projects along the energy value chain, and specifically in areas such as energy supply & trading, energy market modeling and deal structuring
  • Participate to the economic analysis of erecting energy systems with renewable generation, grid integration, and customer profiling
  • Flag critical risks on decision making in coordination with all value chain steps within the energy sector
  • Interact with internal and external stakeholders on significant energy system/market matters
  • Be part of a team of dreamers and doers to deliver NEOM’s fully renewable-based energy system

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree, preferably in Engineering and/or Economics
  • 3+ years of professional experience
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good knowledge of advanced energy technologies and energy market/system dynamics
  • Experience and/or strong affinity in the field of programming and data science
  • Strong conceptual and analytic capabilities paired with enriching emotional intelligence
  • Ability to translate modelling results in clear recommendations to senior decision makers
  • Strong relationship builder and team player
