Job Description

The Senior Architect shall lead and co-ordinate the Architectural design team in the comprehensive review of all design packages related to the project and all enabling sub-projects, with direct responsibility for signing off all Architectural elements of the design packages.
In addition to managing the day to day activities of the Architectural design review team, the Senior Architect shall report directly to the Design Review Manager and participate in direct interfaces with all NEOM internal and external stakeholders, to ensure all design packages comply with the relevant international Codes and Standards.

The Senior Architect shall also effectively manage the transition of key Architectural team members from the design phase to the commissioning phase and develop a transition plan to be approved by the Design and Commissioning Managers to ensure continuity of Architectural input from review through construction start-up to commissioning.

Job Requirements

• Manage and supervise Civil/Structural review team to comprehensively review all design packages related to the project, and identify and resolve any design/constructability issues that arise through consultation with Projects design team
• Utilize in-depth knowledge and experience of project design to develop review plan, in conjunction with other discipline Senior Engineers and aligned with the agreed design schedule, to ensure all reviews are expedited, in-depth and returned to Design Manager in optimum timeframe
• Provide technical consultations for interdisciplinary analytical studies and analyses, and conduct architectural studies, develop design concepts and design criteria, prepare related reports as required
• Support the Design Manager in confirming design guidelines, standards and codes, to ensure compliance with international standards and NEOM vision and theme
• Liaise with Senior Civil counterpart to conduct full analytical analysis of major functional areas in design packages to ensure occupancy requirements, key facilities, full operation and maintenance requirements, such as elevators, window washing facilities etc. are comprehensively addressed
• Provide professional Architect seal and signature for approved design packages, as and when required by contract or statute
• Closely liaise with counterparts on Projects design team/design consultants to ensure all review comments and recommendations related to Architectural are fully incorporated into the next design iteration
• Provide written sign-off to Design Manager for all Architectural elements for each stage of the design i.e. 30%, 60%, 90% and IFC; this is a critical task as the next design cycle cannot proceed until the Design Manager has signed and approved the previous cycle
• Provide technical expertise in development or review of policies and procedures in relation to architectural structures and systems and construction/safety codes.
• Research literature and maintain knowledge of design building materials, structural, mechanical and electrical system codes and methods of application
• Review sub-contractor shop drawings to ensure compliance with specifications and contract agreements by checking them for technical accuracy according to accepted guidelines
• Provide advice and develop design documents to initiate and modify architectural, interior design and space planning solutions
• Liaise with Design and Commissioning Managers to successfully manage the transition of key Architectural team members from the design phase to the commissioning phase, in accordance with the transition schedule developed by both Managers
• Lead the recruitment of suitable, qualified Architects to the team, and assign adequate resources to each design package
• Participate in developing design review KPI’s and lead/champion their implementation in the team

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• 13+ years extensive experience in, and understanding of, the architectural design of mega, multi-disciplinary projects (residential, commercial, industrial, marine etc.)
• Detailed knowledge of, and fully conversant with, all international codes and standards e.g. IBC’s, BS, SBC, Euro Code
• Proven ability to implement design review strategy, problem-solve in real time and make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment
• Proven ability to build effective, professional relationships and trust with colleagues, and internal and external stakeholders alike
• Excellent communicator (verbal and written) and a good command of English and ability to present confidently to small and large groups
• Fully computer literate, capable of using specialist architectural design programs and application e.g. AutoCAD, and Revit drawing programs, graphic illustration software programs such as 3D Studio Max, Illustrator, In-Design preferred
• Proficient in Microsoft packages, Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc., proficiency with Newforma preferred
• Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
• Highly developed aesthetic appreciation of the use of materials, color, form, texture, proportion, composition
• Working knowledge of zoning ordinances and the process by which design solutions are quantified, illustrated and explained to approving authorities or agencies
• As NEOM is in start-up mode with accelerated programs, the Senior Engineer position requires total commitment to achieve key, strategic targets that may require working additional hours
• Strong leadership ability and rational judgement and reasoning skills, with proven ability to communicate effectively at design office, site, management and client levels

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher qualification) in Civil or Structural Engineering, with professional accreditation
• Professional membership of relevant Institute i.e. MCARB, MRIAI, RIBA, Saudi Council of Engineers, etc.
• Minimum 13 years’ experience in the design of large, multi-disciplinary projects, with 7 years in a design leadership role on a complex project, preferably in the Middle East
• Excellent communication skills, with high standard of English (oral and written)
