Nazmi Al-Nasr named as new CEO for NEOM project

The founding board of the NEOM project announced the appointment of Eng. Nazmi Al-Nasr as CEO of NEOM, which was the interim president of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).

The decision followed the appointment of Klaus Kleinfeld, the former chief executive of the project as an adviser to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Kleinfeld, who was previously assigned to develop the NEOM project in northern Saudi Arabia and is currently the Crown Prince’s adviser, will have broader responsibilities to promote the kingdom’s economic, technological and financial development. Kleinfeld will take over his new job officially next month.

Al Nasr has more than 30 years of experience with Saudi Aramco and (KAUST). During his tenure as a member of the Board of Directors of NEOM, he has been working on the development and development of the “NEOM BAY”, one of the early stages of the development of the new Saudi city.

Biography of Engineer Nazmi Al – Nasr

Al-Nasr received his bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering in 1978 from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran, and in the same year joined Saudi Aramco, where he spent the first three years of his appointment in engineering services.

In 1981, Al-Nasser joined the team responsible for implementing the Kingdom’s gas network, a program aimed at providing supplies to the petrochemical industries in Jubail and Yanbu industrial cities.

In 1986, he was promoted to the position of Project Manager. He was responsible for the main programs of the Ghawar Oil Field. The program started increasing the production of crude oil in the same field in 1991.

This contributed to the Kingdom’s ability to meet the production deficit caused by the interruption of oil production from Iraq. And Kuwait during the war to liberate Kuwait. The project was completed and production started in 1993.

In 1995, he was appointed Director of the Shaiba Field Development Program, a giant project that began production in mid-1998.

He then went on to work for Aramco’s General Planning Department and served as Director of the Long-Term Planning Division, responsible for preparing the company’s strategies and business plans.

In 2003 he was appointed Managing Director of Saudi Petroleum Overseas Ltd (“SPOL”). The company, which is an affiliate of Aramco, is engaged in securing international sales, marketing, and forwarding services for crude oil, liquefied petroleum gas, and petroleum and sulfur products for consumers in Europe, Africa and South America.

In 2004, he was appointed as the Executive Director of Housing Services. Later in 2005, he was appointed Vice President of Engineering Services.

Appointed as a member of the advisory board of the Supreme Economic Council of Saudi Arabia pursuant to Royal Decree No. (A / 68) dated 1435/5/3 AH to re-establish the advisory body for economic affairs in the Council for a period of two years from the date of this order.

Appointed with the approval of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz as a member of the Board of Trustees of the King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue on 14/7/2014.
